Sensor data regarding factors such as humidity, groundwater levels, and temperature is increasingly being gathered across numerous locations, often across disparate systems and formats. As a result, combining and reusing this data still requires substantial manual effort.
Together with its partners, Clappform contributed to Geonovum's Sensor Data Testbed, which examined how the OGC SensorThings API can standardise access to sensor data from various sources.
The Testbed demonstrates that technical standards facilitate more streamlined data exchange. Furthermore, clear agreements on semantic definitions per domain or application area are essential to ensure measurements are interpreted consistently across every system.
This approach enhances the practical reusability and interoperability of sensor data, such as within digital twins where data from multiple stakeholders converges.
This aligns seamlessly with Clappform’s methodology, grounded in open standards and sourcing data directly at its origin.
The results of the Testbed will be presented in early November at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona, where Clappform will also be present. It has been a pleasure to contribute to this testbed alongside Geonovum, Fraunhofer, Collaborall, Geo Insights, and TU Delft.
