Data Safe House collects data from industrial companies on energy consumption, emissions, and sustainability projects. Grid operators use this data to plan the energy infrastructure of the future. Clappform built a new Data Management platform for Data Safe House to enter, verify, and validate this data.

The challenge
Entering data into Data Safe House requires accuracy. It involves extensive information on energy consumption, emissions, and future sustainability projects. In the previous environment, content-related data was stored in different places. As a result, it sometimes took more time to find the correct fields, and the interrelationships were less clear.
The annual review process also largely took place outside the platform. Feedback from the Data Safe House manager and responses from the submitting party were exchanged via separate documents, emails, and overviews. This made it more difficult to link feedback directly to the correct data, and points of attention often only became visible during the review.
In addition, this involves commercially sensitive information. Data Safe House therefore places high demands on data security and data sovereignty, such as storage within Europe and independence from parties outside the European Union.

Our solution
Clappform developed a new dashboard that displays the status of all data entry components at a glance, per company and per project. The statuses are also interactive, allowing users to click through directly to the component requiring action. The navigation groups related data, reducing search time and making data relationships immediately visible.
Reference data regarding the current situation and future sustainability projects are visually aligned. Users can instantly see the impact of a project on energy consumption per energy carrier and on factory site emissions, and can compare multiple sustainability pathways side by side. This allows for the definition of various alternatives and the analysis of what each scenario means for the use of electricity, natural gas, hydrogen, or other energy carriers.
Entered data is instantly converted into interactive charts, including waterfall diagrams that show step-by-step what projects add or reduce. This immediately reveals whether a combination of projects actually leads to sustainability. The linking of data also helps to detect errors earlier; an improbable outlier, such as a misplaced decimal point, is thus immediately visible.
The review process takes place entirely on the platform. Feedback and responses are located directly alongside the relevant data, similar to a messaging function linked to specific data fields. Automatically generated, clickable notifications guide users directly to the field requiring action. This makes it instantly clear which question or comment still needs attention, ensuring that data entry, review, and validation now take place entirely on one central platform.
Since September 2026, all submitting companies have had access to the new platform, allowing them to submit data more easily, quickly, and with greater overview. This enables the energy transition to be realised even faster.
European software
Clappform is a European cloud service provider, with data storage primarily taking place in the Netherlands and software components also originating from Europe, thereby ensuring the data sovereignty of Data Safe House. As such, the platform is part of Data Safe House's ISO 27001-certified chain.
